Serving Up More Mugs with HugsSubmitted By: Traci Green
My Students: Our students are eager to learn--they come every day excited and ready to face the daily challenge of learning and growing their minds and abilities. We have 23 amazing students in my life skills classroom. Each one brings something different and interesting to make our classroom what it is. It is up to us to make sure and reach each one in the best way that we can and help them to continue growing. We have an amazingly supportive administrative team that enjoys visiting our classroom and seeing the incredible growth that are students are making each day.
My Project: Our classroom is set up differently than most classrooms to better meet the needs of our students. In our FALS classrooms, we have implemented a Friday mobile coffee bar that our life skills students run. This allows them various ways to work on their social skills, math skills, as well as everyday living skills. Staff members place their Friday orders by using an order form to let the students know what coffee/soda/tea/treat they would like. Students will then be sorting and organizing orders. After that, the students will assist in making the coffee and then take it on a cart around the school to deliver it to the teachers. The skills our students have been able to practice in a real world setting are: money skills, interpersonal skills, and life skills. We are asking for a variety of Single-Serve K-Cup Pods and coffee cups.
My Students Need: We are in need of the items to allow us to set this great opportunity up for our students. Our students will be able to serve our entire school staff and administration and become better known throughout the school for what they are able to do.
