There are a significant number of students that need additional reading intervention in order to be successful and catch-up with their peers. By providing a back to school option we believe that the students will have the opportunity to focus on their particular need and be prepared for the new school year. They will have two weeks of intense reading instruction that will help them to build their confidence and skills while gaining valuable background knowledge in science, social studies and math. Several teachers volunteered their time to work with these students for two weeks prior to the beginning of school. The Round Up teacher will focus on a particular reading comprehension strategy for one week. At the end of each week the students will be given an assessment for that skill and receive a take-home practice family fun bag (take home reader, game-activity and additional resources). This intervention will continue into the school year for another 3 weeks. At the end of the intervention the Reading Specialist will assess all Round Up students and will determine the need for further intervention. The Mansfield ISD Education Foundation at a cost of $4,933.50 Kindergarten and First grade provided the grant.
