Serving Others…Learning through Hands-On WorkSubmitted By: Traci Green, Tanya Weitzman & Miranda Williams
Our Students: Our students are eager to learn. They come every day excited and ready to face the daily challenge of learning and growing their minds and abilities. We have 24 amazing students in our life skills classrooms. Each one brings something different and interesting to make our classroom what it is. It is up to us to make sure and reach each one in the best way that we can and help them to continue growing. We have an amazingly supportive administrative team that enjoys visiting our classroom and seeing the incredible growth that are students are making each day. Our students look forward to Friday each week knowing that they will get to make our MJS staff smile all while working on their social and independent living skills.
Our Project: Our classroom is set up differently than most classrooms to better meet the needs of our students. In our classroom, we have implemented a Friday mobile coffee bar that our life skills students run. This allows them various ways to work on their social skills, math skills, as well as everyday living skills. We are asking for a variety of Single-Serve K-Cup Pods as well as coffee supplies in order to allow them to continue this amazing experience. We are in need of the items to allow us to set this great opportunity up for our students. Our students will be able to serve our entire school staff and administration and become better known throughout the school for what they are able to do. This project is one that we would like to keep going but without the help of others, we cannot fund it alone. The coffee cart Friday is also a big positive behavior reinforcer because everyone wants to be able to serve the MJS staff and push the coffee cart!
Our Students Need: Our students need k-cups and coffee supplies in order to continue running their life skills coffee shop to help develop numerous skills.
