Since 1998, The Mansfield ISD Education Foundation has given back in excess of $2,000,000 to Mansfield Independent School District Schools, in the form of Educator Grants made possible by the common passion for excellence in education that is shared by our community.

The Foundation serves as an investment vehicle for those who support the vision of excellence in education for which Mansfield ISD is known.

The Foundation provides an innovative source of funding to support the school district's educational plan of excellence.

Mansfield ISD Education Foundation Director, Linda Bacsik welcomes back all the teachers and staff to the 2010-2011 school year with some exciting news about a new grant program and information on the foundation office's new location.

NEW Foundation Mini-Grant Program!

Mini-Grants are available for up to $250.00 and are due on Monday, September 13, 2010 by 4:30 p.m. to the foundation office.
Only individual classroom teachers are eligible to apply. Grant application forms can be emailed to the foundation office or dropped off at 1016 Magnolia #200. Only one submission per teacher. Mini grants will be awarded at your campus by Oct 15, 2010. Checks will be made out to the campus.

One of the Mansfield ISD Education Foundation�s most successful fund raising events is the Annual Golf Tournament, which provides an opportunity to mix business with pleasure as we come together with sponsors and supporters.

Without the generous support of our many donors and sponsors, none of this would be possible. Your support allows us to find new ways of keeping our schools on the cutting edge and preparing for the future.

You Can Help!

The MISD Education Foundaiton Staff Appeal begins Sept. 13th and runs through October 1, 2010.

New incentive program called �Strive for Five� - any district employee that contributes $50 or more by cash, check or payroll deduction will receive a packet with $25 of discounts from local restaurants.

Some of the restaurants that have committed so far are Carino�s, Cotton Patch, No Frills Grill, Suzy Q�s, Spring Creek and Mexican Inn with more on the way.

Who Gives a Hoot? - Mary Jo Sheppard

Mary Jo Sheppard Elementary School receives $1547.37 grant for - Who Gives a Hoot? Teachers: Linda Zumwalt, Ashley Coffman, Olga Felan, Athena Johnson, Joelene Prust, Kellie Scanlan, Bianca Wilson and Kristi Wilson received a grant for $1547.37 from the Mansfield ISD Education Foundation.

The grant funds will be used to purchase a projector, owl pellets and other lab supplies. These tools will be used for students to learn facts about and explore the owl during it�s everyday life activities, including the owl�s impact on the eco-system. All their work will be saved and presented in a power point presentation.

It is Easy to be Green! - Mansfield High School

Mansfield High School receives $802.90 grant for - It is Easy to be Green! Teacher Danny McMahan received a grant for $802.90 from the Mansfield ISD Education Foundation.

The grant funds will be used to purchase a heavy duty paper shredder and paper making supplies. Students will use these tools to take their shredded paper and recycle it into paper pulp that will be used as scrap paper and special events stationary. The paper pulp can also be used for other art projects district wide.

From All Angles - Mary Lillard Intermediate

Mary Lillard Intermediate School receives $1658.50 grant for - From All Angles. Teachers: Carol Welle and Sharon Hunstable received a grant for $1,658.50 from the Mansfield ISD Education Foundation.

The grant funds will be used to purchase various quilting equipment and supplies. Using these tools with at risk students, to create quilt blocks, gives these students a hands on experience in measuring and reasoning activities that focus on organization, precision and sequential actions.

Cowbell Cafe - Legacy High School

Legacy High School Received $2,779.13 grant for -Cowbell Cafe - Women�s Division of the Mansfield Chamber Grant. Teachers, Michelle Lutes and Jayme Schroeder received a grant for $2,779.13 from the Mansfield ISD Education Foundation.

The grant will provide funds to purchase equipment and supplies for a restaurant/caf�. Students will benefit by gaining food service experience and skills that will lead to future job placement, as well as, reinforce their every day living skills.

Grants In Action - Happiness Heals

Summit and Legacy High Schools receives $4361.65 grant for Happiness Heals (Battle of the Nines Grant). Teachers; Keli Cullen and Dena Schimming received a grant for $4361.65 from the Mansfield ISD Education Foundation.

The grant funds will be used to purchase Clowning lessons, costumes, make up and transportation. These tools will be used to teach Teen Leadership students the art of clowning while allowing them to �clown� for sick children at Cook�s Children�s Hospital.

Grants In Action - Children Hear Authors Talk

CHAT (Children Hear Authors Talk) American Eagle Builders Grant. Mary Lillard Intermediate School received a grant for $2249.95. Teachers Ruth Edwards, Wayne Page, and Shane Skinner received a grant for $2249.95 from the Mansfield ISD Education Foundation.

The grant funds will be used to purchase the Sony JPEG Network, Camera SNC M1 and library books. These tools increase the choices of books for our students to read.

Grants In Action - iTouch, iDo, iLearn Physics!

National Semiconductor Math & Science Grant - Teachers Michael Strange, Byron Barrett, Matt Walker received a grant for $9,974.01 from the Mansfield ISD Education Foundation.

The grant will provide funds to purchase the iPod Touch for students, iPod physics apps. Student will analyze their data and include it in a presentation-style lab report to the class.

Students will feel more confident in their information and more efficient in finding their data while at Six Flags and their presentations in front of the class.

Also include information on how the grant is progressing and the success of the students learning as a result of the grant funds. We will feature each grant on the foundation website.

Photos and information can be e-mailed to the foundation office or by simply replying to this newsletter and you will be contacted by the foundation multi-media producer.

The Harlem Ambassadors Are Coming! – Thursday, February 7, 2008
The Harlem Ambassadors vs. The Mansfield All-stars benefitting The Mansfield ISD Education Foundation at Legacy High School Thursday, February 7, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. Get ready for dazzling ball-handling tricks, high-flying slam dunks and hilarious family comedy. Join the Harlem Ambassadors Basketball Show on Thursday, February 7, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at Legacy High School, as they take on the Mansfield All-Stars. The Harlem Ambassadors…It’s not your grandfather’s basketball show!

See Deion Sanders, Spud Webb, Carlos Francis (Former NFL player), Mansfield ISD coaches and more stars. Jody Dean will be featured as our guest announcer.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at Frost Bank, Texas Trust Credit Union, Palio’s Pizza, Trios Pizza and the Mansfield ISD Education Foundation office or at the door.

MISD Education Foundation 2nd Round Grant Application Deadline
Signed applications are due to Linda Bacsik, Director of Foundation & Grant Development, at the MISD Administration office no later than Tuesday Jan. 22 by 4:30pm.

REMEMBER - If you are applying for a grant with technology equipment you must have your TTCC certification or be signed up for an upcoming class. Please send your grants to Ray Jaksa for approval.

The Education Foundation board of directors would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. The board would also like to thank all of our donors who have generously given to the foundation for the benefit of teachers and students in Mansfield ISD. Thank you to the teachers who have spent their days, nights and weekends writing their grant proposals. We applaud the dedication you have to your profession and your dedication to the students that you educate every day.

Foundation 2nd Round Grant Application Deadline
Signed applications are due to Linda Bacsik, Director of Foundation & Grant Development, at the MISD Administration office no later than Tuesday Jan. 22 by 4:30pm.

REMEMBER - If you are applying for a grant with technology equipment you must have your TTCC certification or be signed up for an upcoming class. Please send your grants to Ray Jaksa for approval.

Mansfield Night with the Stars - Monday November 19, 2007 @ 7:30 pm!
Monday November 19, 2007 @ 7:30 pm - Dallas Stars vs. Los Angeles Kings. THE DALLAS STARS AND THE MANSFIELD ISD ARE COLLABORATING TO RAISE MONEY FOR THE MANSFIELD ISD EDUCATION FOUNDATION. Grants in Action - Landforms, Erosion and Environmental Engineering Lab!
Cross Timbers Intermediate School - $4,600. Teachers: Wendy Purdy, Larita Lanier, Ricky Kizer, Nancy Mosley and Burke Egner. All 5th and 6th grade students will be exposed to the vocabulary, visual and hands-on experiences the physical earth encounters due to environmental and human interactions. The following materials were purchased for this grant: sandboxes with lids, watering cans, sand for boxes, clay pots, digging tools and PVC pipe for drainage experiments. This will benefit the students at Cross Timbers with hands on learning. The students will explore ways to problem solve environmental issues. Largest Staff Appeal in History of Foundation!
Staff donations to the Education Foundation this year were the largest ever. The Education Foundation thanks the staff for their generous contributions this year. Two campuses that were outstanding this year were Mansfield High School with the largest contribution of $12,500 and the largest contribution from an Elementary campus was Thelma Jones, with a total of $2,210.00. Steve Gast, principal of Mansfield High School, and Dr. Bill Fisher was the Staff Appeal representative for the foundation this year. Lead Gifts totaling $217,700 was presented at the MISD Education Foundation Kick-off Breakfast on November 1, 2007. We thank these companies for taking the lead in our 2007-2008 Annual Drive toward our goal of $355,000. Mansfield ISD Education Foundation Staff Appeal Kick-off!
The MISD Education Foundation kicks off Staff Appeal on Monday Sept. 10, 2007. The staff drive runs from Sept 10 - 28. We hope to top last year’s total of $54,000 pledged. Winners will be featured on the website. To learn more please visit us at www.mansfieldisdfoundation.org

The MISD Education Foundation Grant Workshop was held September 11, 2007 in the MISD board room. The teachers were presented with information about how to write a successful grant. Several teachers already had some great ideas for new programs and were very excited about submitting their grant to the foundation. The Harlem Ambassadors - Coming in February 2008!
The Harlem Ambassadors vs.The Mansfield Allstars benefitting The Mansfield ISD Education Foundation at Legacy High School Thursday, February 7, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. The mission of the Harlem Ambassadors is to deliver a quality basketball show to our audiences throughout the United States and internationally. The show is designed to be fun for customers of all ages, with youngsters being awed for the first time and older folks enjoying the tried-and-true gags like a rerun of a favorite comedy movie. Back to School Round Up for Success at Mary Jo Sheppard Elementary
There are a significant number of students that need additional reading intervention in order to be successful and “catch-up” with their peers. By providing a back to school option we believe that the students will have the opportunity to focus on their particular need and be prepared for the new school year. The grant was provided by the MISD Education Foundation at a cost of $4,933.50 Kindergarten and First grade. Summit High School Fish Fest
Mansfield ISD Education Foundation awarded the Fish Fest Grant. The purpose of Fish Fest is to create a welcoming and encouraging environment to Summit High School for the incoming freshmen, so that they will feel secure and comfortable in both academic and social settings. The upperclassmen “Fishing Guides” will present and provide the tools needed to instill the scholastic and social confidence that the “Little Fish” will need through the year as they jump in to the big BLUE pond of Summit. Fish Fest was a $10,000 grant awarded by the MISD Education Foundation in the spring of 200.

Lights Fantastic – Summit High School
Lights Fantastic was a project where photojournalism students learned about the properties of light and how that affected their photos. They also learned how to use the bulb setting on their cameras to capture things like lightning and neon lights in photographs. They used flashlights with and without colored filters to "draw" with light in photos, and they used flashes with and without colored filters to make multiple exposures on one frame. Some students tried using the colored filters to change the color of a solid black or white background to match a color in their subject. The grant gave the students the opportunity to experiment with light and how it could change the mood of their photos. To see the video please visit us at www.mansfieldisdfoundation.org

Outdoor Learning Center - Timberview High School
The Star-Telegram published an article - Biology lessons more vivid than a textbook! Senior Morgan Putman learns about science by getting her hands dirty and wading through muddy creek water. Putman, 17, wants to study veterinary medicine in college. She says the knowledge she's gaining from Mansfield Timberview High School's new outdoor learning center is beyond practical. Donor Honored with Plaque from Foundation!
Denton Wilson, President of the MISD Education Foundation, and Linda Bacsik, Director of the Foundation presented Alicia Reber and Manager John Compton with a plaque.
