The MISD Education Foundation is a 501c3 that has provided more than $2.3 million to teachers in our district to fund innovative projects in our classrooms.   Over the past 12 years we have funded more than 990 grants though two grant rounds a year.  Individual teachers can apply for up to $1000 and a grade level or campus can apply for up to $5000.  Special THINK BIG grants provide $10,000 in funding.  These grants are made possible by the generous donations from businesses and corporations and individuals and organizations in our community.

Last August the MISD Education Foundation added a special Mini-grant round ($250) that inspired teachers to write grants for projects & materials for immediate implementation in their classrooms. The grant request form was quick and easy to use.  The response was outstanding! We had wonderful ideas submitted for projects that teachers wanted to do to enhance the education opportunities for our students.

Last year we received 75 mini-grants totaling $14,500 and funded 25 for $5,062. We would have loved to have provided funding for more great ideas!

This year, we want to give our parents and our community an opportunity to help us fund more of these terrific projects and get much needed resources into our classrooms to benefit our children!

Our commitment is to still spend $5000 on the mini-grant round, as well as provide funding for two grant rounds a year.  For the mini-grant round, teachers may request up to $250 for an individual classroom or up to $1250 for a grade level or campus projects

But we will need your help to make this possible.  Your donations will help to insure that we are able to fund more projects.  After our initial grant approval review, we will provide a list of fundable grants by campus, subject area and grade level. You can help us by making a donation to fund a specific grant on a specific campus or by just making a general contribution to the foundation for fall grants.  Any amount of contribution is welcome and tax deductible!

Starting on August 29 – September 29 you can donate online to specific grants.

Teacher Information: WeCan Choose is a new program giving parents and the community the opportunity to directly fund grants in the classroom.

[Deadline for grants is: August 11, 2011 - Grants will be posted starting August 29th – Sept. 29th.]

All money goes back into the classroom

$250.00 max for an individual teacher
$1,250.00 max for a grade level
$1,250.00 max for music, PE, technologists, librarians, art.
$1,250 max for subject area teachers in middle and high schools

Schools can submit as many grants as they like. Our commitment is to spend $5000 on the mini-grant round, as well as provide funding for two grant rounds a year.

1)  FULLY FUNDED GRANTS
** if an individual or a group of individuals donate $250 or $1250 (or the actual amount of the grant request)   to fund a specific grant,  BINGO -  that grant will be funded and the teacher will be able to implement that grant in the classroom during the Fall 2011 semester.

2)  OVER FUNDED GRANTS
**If an individual or group of individuals donates an amount that is greater than the amount of the grant request, the additional funds collected will be used to cover any additional grants submitted by that campus.  If there are no additional grants, parents will have the opportunity to designate their donation to the foundation for fall 2011 grants or request a refund from the MISD Education Foundation.

3)  PARTIALLY FUNDED GRANTS
**If an individual or a group of individuals donate an amount to fund a specific grant (that does not cover the entire cost of the project), any money from overfunded grants on that campus will be applied to these grants. These grants may also receive partial funding if it does not materially alter the grant.  (Example:  instead of getting 4 books for each class, they may get 3 books for each class) The MISD Education Foundation will consider funding the remaining money of the grant (from our $5000 commitment for the mini-grant round) based on the amount of grants that fall into this category.  If morel funding is not available in the mini-grant round, these projects will be given first consideration for funding in our fall grant round for the remaining monies.

4)  GRANTS THAT DO NOT RECEIVE ANY FUNDING
**Any other remaining money from the $5000 mini grant round will be used to fund these projects if there is money available.  If their grants are not funded in the mini-round, teachers will be encouraged to resubmit grant ideas during the regular fall grant round on the regular grant forms for consideration.   (that should take care of poorer campuses who may not get designated funds)
